ECWA BoT Chairman Rev. Prof. Sunday Agang Abducted by Gunmen in Plateau State
In a distressing security breach, gunmen have abducted the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Evangelical Church Winning All, Rev. Prof. Sunday B. Agang, in Jos, Plateau State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 24, 2026, highlighting the persistent threat of kidnapping in the region.
Details of the Abduction
According to sources, approximately six armed assailants invaded Rev. Agang's residence in the Farin-Gada community, located within Jos North Local Government Area. The gunmen arrived at around 5:00 am, while the family was still asleep, and forcefully entered the home. They held the family hostage before whisking away the retired pastor at gunpoint to an unknown destination.
A source close to the family reported that the kidnappers acted swiftly, disappearing with their victim in a waiting car before any alarm could be raised. The family was left traumatized by the sudden and violent intrusion.
Church Response and Broader Context
The Public Relations Officer of ECWA, Dickson Auta, confirmed the abduction in an official statement. He expressed deep concern over the frequent attacks targeting ECWA pastors and worshippers, not only in Plateau State but also in Kwara State. The church authorities have reported the incident to the appropriate security agencies and are actively working to trace the kidnappers to their hideout.
In a related development, ECWA has been grappling with a series of criminal attacks on its members. Earlier in the week, armed bandits attacked a church service in Oke Oro LCC of Oro Ago, Kwara State, abducting eight worshippers and injuring several others. The assailants also stole phones and other valuables during the assault.
Another incident involved the abduction of Rev. Sunday Bobai Agangs, a pastor with the denomination, further underscoring the targeting of religious figures. ECWA leadership has acknowledged all reports and is engaged in managing the situation, urging the public to remain calm and prayerful.
Call for Calm and Vigilance
In its statement, ECWA emphasized faith and resilience, calling on everyone to trust in divine intervention while authorities work to resolve the crises. The church promised to provide updates as the situation develops, maintaining transparency and support for affected families.
This abduction adds to the growing list of security challenges in Nigeria, particularly in regions plagued by banditry and kidnapping. It raises urgent questions about the safety of religious leaders and communities, prompting calls for enhanced security measures and collaborative efforts between law enforcement and local stakeholders.
