Gunmen have abducted six students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in a late-night raid on an off-campus lodge in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at approximately 9 p.m., when unidentified armed hoodlums stormed the students' residence and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
Police Confirm Abduction
The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday, May 7, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel. According to the statement, the six victims are students of the Faculty of Engineering, Gudi Campus. An additional victim, who was reportedly visiting one of the students at the time, was also abducted.
Commissioner Visits Scene
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. He reassured students, residents, and the university community of the Command's unwavering commitment to the safe rescue of the abducted victims. The Commissioner has redeployed the Area Commander, Akwanga, to coordinate field operations pending the rescue.
Joint Security Operation
A combined security team comprising personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), vigilante groups, and other tactical units has been deployed to intensify efforts to track down the abductors and rescue the victims unhurt. The Command urges the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any useful information to the nearest police station or security agency.
