Police Chief Visits Kebbi Following School Abduction

Nigeria's Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed deep concern over the abduction of 25 female students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, located in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The police chief made this known during a sympathy visit to Governor Nasir Idris at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on November 26, 2025.

Security Crisis in Kebbi State

Mr. Egbetokun described his visit as painful, acknowledging the intense pressure and grief experienced by the Danko-Wasagu community and Kebbi State at large. He characterized the attack on the Maga school as an act of terror designed to instill fear and deny children their fundamental right to education.

The Inspector-General revealed that security forces have responded to the crisis by expanding operational platforms and enhancing intelligence sharing mechanisms with sister security agencies. He emphasized that peace in Kebbi is integral to national security, stating that if there is no peace in Kebbi, there can be no peace in Nigeria.

Enhanced Security Measures Deployed

Egbetokun reaffirmed the police commitment to collaborate with the state government and other security agencies to track down the perpetrators and safeguard vulnerable communities. He stressed that making Kebbi safe would consequently ensure the safety of the entire North West region and Nigeria as a whole.

In response, Governor Nasir Idris thanked the IGP for his timely visit and ongoing security interventions. The governor expressed appreciation for all security agencies operating in the state and acknowledged their commitment to responsibilities.

Governor Idris confirmed that Kebbi State remains ready to partner with the police to enhance security across the state. He highlighted that the recent deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other security assets approved by the IGP would significantly boost operations in vulnerable zones.

The security collaboration between state and federal authorities represents a critical step toward addressing the security challenges facing educational institutions in northern Nigeria and restoring safety to affected communities.
