President Bola Tinubu has issued a decisive directive for a comprehensive security cordon in Kwara State forests following recent terrorist activities and kidnapping incidents that have shaken the region.
Presidential Directive for Enhanced Security
The presidential order was disclosed by Sunday Dare, Tinubu's special adviser on media and public communication, in an official statement released on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. The announcement was made through social media platforms to ensure rapid dissemination of the critical security update.
According to the detailed directive, President Tinubu has specifically ordered the Nigerian Air Force to extend intensive surveillance operations deep into the innermost parts of the Kwara forest. This area is suspected to be serving as a hideout for terrorists responsible for the recent wave of attacks and abductions in the state.
Military Coordination and Duration
The security operation will involve coordinated efforts between aerial and ground forces, with the Air Force maintaining 24-hour surveillance while linking up with military boots on the ground. The comprehensive security cordon is planned to be maintained continuously to effectively combat the security threat.
In his statement, Sunday Dare emphasized that "They are to maintain a 24-hour surveillance and link up with the boots on the ground." The presidential aide further revealed that this security directive equally applies to the Kebbi and Niger States axis, where numerous kidnapping victims are expected to be rescued through the enhanced operations.
Public Reaction and Community Involvement
The presidential statement also called on local communities to provide timely information to security agencies, highlighting the crucial role citizens play in supporting security operations. This appeal for community cooperation comes amid growing public concern about the security situation in the region.
Nigerians have expressed mixed reactions to the development through social media comments on the official announcement. Some commentators questioned the government's approach, referencing previous statements about security agencies having established communication channels with terrorists.
Paul Iba commented: "I thought Mr Bayo Onanuga said the DSS and the Military call the terrorists and order the release of kidnapped Church worshippers in Kwara? How come you people are finding it difficult to reach out to the terrorists? The government should better be serious and do the needful."
Another social media user, Femi, expressed skepticism about the strategy: "So after successive successful attacks, the affected forests would then be cordoned off. What exactly are we hoping to achieve with such a weak strategy? No wonder our intelligence agencies keep playing catch-up each time."
The security directive follows recent incidents including the Eruku church attack, which had sparked widespread concern about terrorist activities in Kwara State. The comprehensive response demonstrates the federal government's commitment to addressing security challenges in the region through coordinated military action.
