Military Personnel Caught in Illegal Weapons Transport
In a significant security breach, troops from the 12 Brigade have apprehended a serving member of the Nigerian Air Force while allegedly transporting illegal firearms to the nation's capital.
The suspect, identified as ACM Anas Muhammed Fakai with service number 23/42603, was intercepted at Kabba junction in Lokoja around 10:22 PM on Tuesday, November 24, 2025.
Weapons Cache and Arrest Details
Security forces discovered Fakai in possession of two pump action guns and one browning pistol destined for Abuja. The arrest was conducted through a joint operation involving military personnel and operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Fakai, who is currently stationed at the 107 AIR Maritime Group on Airport Road, Benin, Edo State, was taken into custody along with all the recovered exhibits.
Shocking Police Connections Revealed
During interrogation, the suspect made startling revelations about his intended recipients. Fakai claimed he was supposed to deliver the weapons to Constable Mohammed Auwal Haliru, who serves at the police headquarters in Abuja.
More concerning was Fakai's assertion that Constable Haliru works as an orderly attached to a Commissioner of Police at the force headquarters, raising serious questions about potential high-level involvement.
The suspect further disclosed that the weapons were originally given to him for delivery by Inspector Paul, who is reportedly attached to the Government House in Benin City, Edo State.
Background Investigation Uncovers More Details
Additional investigation into the suspect's background revealed that Anas Muhammed Fakai attended The Nigeria Police Secondary School in Gusau, Zamfara State between 2015 and 2019.
This educational background at a police institution adds another layer of complexity to the case, given his current involvement with military forces and alleged connections to police personnel.
According to official statements, both the suspect and the recovered weapons remain in custody awaiting further directives from higher authorities. The Special Sitrep confirmed that the case is under active investigation as security agencies work to unravel the full extent of this security breach.
This incident raises serious concerns about weapons proliferation and potential collusion between security personnel across different agencies. The involvement of serving officers from multiple security branches suggests a coordinated network that could compromise national security.
