In a significant blow to terrorist operations in the North-East, troops of the Nigerian Army have intercepted a major cache of weapons and logistical supplies destined for the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The operation, which took place in Borno State, underscores the military's intensified efforts to cripple the support networks of insurgent groups.
Intelligence Leads to Major Interception
The successful operation was conducted by troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). Acting on credible human intelligence received on Thursday, December 18, 2025, the forces were alerted to the movement of suspicious items from Dapchi in Yobe State towards the Magumeri area of Borno State.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, confirmed the development. He stated that troops, acting swiftly on the tip-off, tactically deployed and successfully intercepted two pick-up vans along the identified route.
A Detailed Inventory of Seized Items
A thorough search of the intercepted vehicles revealed a large assortment of items intended for terrorist logistics support. The recovered cache is a mix of vehicle parts, food supplies, and communication tools, highlighting the diverse needs of the terrorist cells.
The seized items include:
- Two civilian vehicles used for transport.
- 31 spare tyres and 23 spare rims.
- Two bicycles, 12 ignition key starters, and three alternators.
- Essential foodstuffs: two bags of flour, 34 tubers of yam, two nylons of garri, and five bags of charcoal.
- Other supplies: one mattress, two blankets, assorted clothing for adults and children.
- Communication and power devices: six mobile phones, one power bank, and cash in various denominations.
The drivers of the vehicles were apprehended and, alongside the recovered items, are currently in military custody. The suspects are undergoing further interrogation to uncover the full extent of their involvement and to aid ongoing counter-terrorism investigations.
Military Reaffirms Commitment to Disrupting Terror Networks
Lieutenant Colonel Uba described the interception as a major achievement in the ongoing campaign to dismantle terrorist supply chains in the region. He emphasized that the operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven missions and the crucial collaboration between the military and local security partners like the CJTF.
"This successful interception underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the sustained collaboration between troops and local security partners in disrupting terrorist logistics networks," Uba stated.
He further assured the public that troops under Operation Hadin Kai remain resolute in their mandate to deny terrorists freedom of movement, cut off their supply sources, and ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens across the North-East.
This operation coincides with a recent charge from the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), who urged troops to maintain continuous vigilance and readiness to respond to all security threats across Nigeria. The minister also stressed the importance of stronger joint operations among the nation's security agencies.
