The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has given a firm assurance to soldiers wounded in action across Nigeria. He promised they will receive the best possible medical treatment, stating emphatically that their immense sacrifices for the nation will never be forgotten or be in vain.
High-Level Visit to Assess Hospital Facilities
This significant commitment was conveyed on Sunday, November 30, by the Chief of Administration at Army Headquarters, Major General Isah Abdullahi. He was representing the COAS during a working visit to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
Major General Abdullahi explained that the visit served a crucial purpose: to evaluate the operations of this flagship medical facility for the Nigerian Army. "Last week, upon his assumption of duty, I visited this hospital to assess its operations and, most importantly, to meet with the wounded-in-action soldiers from our ongoing operations," Abdullahi stated.
He revealed that following that initial assessment, the Chief of Army Staff personally directed him to return. The mission was to follow up on the soldiers' conditions and identify any challenges the hospital might be facing. The ultimate objective is to solve those problems and ensure the facility keeps improving.
A Transformed Centre of Medical Excellence
After touring the hospital and speaking with the recuperating troops, Major General Abdullahi shared his observations. "It's evident that this hospital has undergone significant transformation, representing a complete paradigm shift from its previous state," he noted.
He highlighted a key development: the hospital now extends its services beyond military personnel. It also provides critical care to civilians from Kaduna and neighbouring areas, solidifying its reputation as a true centre of excellence in healthcare.
"Much has improved here, and we hope this visit will contribute further to the progressive development of the facility," Abdullahi added. He stressed the Army's goal is to ensure the hospital continues playing a vital role in meeting the health needs of both the military and the general public.
Direct Reassurance to the Wounded Heroes
Addressing the wounded soldiers directly, the Chief of Administration reaffirmed the nation's profound gratitude for their service and sacrifice. He emphasized the unwavering commitment of military authorities to ensure their contributions are fully recognized and honoured.
"We will do everything possible to guarantee that they receive the best medical care, with the intention of returning them to their duty posts as swiftly as possible," Major General Abdullahi promised the soldiers.
The visit concluded with an extensive tour of the hospital's facilities. Major General Abdullahi interacted with the wounded soldiers alongside the Chief Medical Director, Brigadier General Godwin Ogoh, and other principal officers of the hospital.
