In a significant blow to criminal networks, the Nigerian Army has reported the destruction of multiple bandit camps and the arrest of a key suspect during recent clearance operations in Taraba State.
Operation Zafin Wuta Strikes in Takum
Acting on fresh intelligence, troops from the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, launched coordinated assaults under Operation Zafin Wuta targeting mountainous hideouts in the Takum Local Government Area. The operations, which took place on Thursday, December 4, 2025, saw soldiers advance into the remote communities of Shiid, Agia, and Tyozua.
Upon arrival, the troops discovered several camps which had been abandoned by fleeing criminals. The Army stated that these hideouts, which the bandits had previously boasted were unreachable, were systematically combed and demolished by the security forces.
During the advance into Tyozua, armed men attempted to hinder the soldiers' movement by setting fire to a wooden bridge. This obstruction tactic failed, and the troops continued their pursuit until the fleeing fighters crossed power lines towards neighbouring Benue State.
A follow-up search in the area led to the arrest of a suspect identified as Dahiru Maigari. He is currently undergoing preliminary interrogation by the authorities.
Firefight in Karim Lamido Leads to Recovery of Arms
In a separate incident two days later, a fighting patrol in the Karim Lamido area was ambushed. While approaching Usmanu, the troops came under fire from gunmen concealed near Wudompi Community.
The soldiers swiftly returned fire, leading to a confrontation where two armed attackers were neutralized. A subsequent search of the scene yielded significant recoveries, including:
- One AK-47 rifle
- Twenty-one rounds of ammunition
No casualties were recorded among the soldiers. Security assessments suggest the gunmen were part of a faction attempting to regroup in the area. Stability has been restored, and patrols continue to deter further criminal activity.
Army Leadership Commends Troops, Vows Sustained Pressure
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, praised the personnel for their professionalism and courage during these missions. He emphasized that the operations demonstrated that no terrain is beyond the reach of the Nigerian Army.
General Uwa reassured communities across Taraba State of the Army's unwavering commitment to their safety. He affirmed that the Brigade would maintain relentless pressure on all criminal groups until the region is fully secured.
The Army's statement reiterated its dedication to sustained operations across the state and called for continued cooperation from residents as security agencies work to dismantle the remaining networks of armed groups.
