CDS Vows to Root Out All Threats to National Security

In a powerful and resolute address, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has declared the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to completely eradicate all threats to the nation's security. He made this pledge in his goodwill message marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day on Monday, January 12.

A Firm Vow Against Adversaries

General Oluyede stated that the military is prepared to confront both domestic and cross-border challenges head-on. He issued a stern warning to the nation's foes, vowing that the armed forces "shall give no quarter, nor mortgage the cradle of our national heritage and security at any time." He confidently asserted that the boasts of adversaries would remain futile and their overconfidence would lead only to disappointment.

The CDS took a moment to express his profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He thanked the President for his steadfast leadership, strategic direction, and consistent support for the military. Oluyede reassured the President of the armed forces' unshakable dedication to protecting Nigeria's democratic principles while ensuring peace and security across the nation.

Tribute to the Fallen and Their Families

In a poignant segment of his message, General Oluyede paid homage to Nigeria's fallen heroes, describing them as "valiant souls who laid down their lives in the line of duty to safeguard the unity and sovereignty of Nigeria." He emphasized that their sacrifice of 'today' was made to secure the nation's 'tomorrow,' and their legacy of bravery is permanently recorded in history.

"Their devotion to duty was not a mishap but a calling to patriotism; hence, the weight of our gratitude remains unquantifiable," he stated. The Defence Chief also directed the nation's attention to the families of the departed, praising their strength and resilience in coping with immense loss. He promised that the military would never falter in its efforts to ensure the legacies of these heroes are preserved and honoured for generations to come.

Commendation for Serving Troops and a Call for Unity

General Oluyede extended his gratitude and commendation to the officers and soldiers currently serving in various theatres of operation nationwide. He praised their exceptional professionalism, loyalty, and dedication to duty under extremely difficult and dangerous conditions.

"As your Chief of Defence Staff, I am immensely proud of your qualitative output and your commitment to the values of discipline and selfless service," he said. He recognized their battle scars as a silent testament to their courage and unwavering will to defend Nigeria's freedom and democracy.

The CDS concluded with a dual promise and appeal. He pledged to prioritize the welfare of troops and called on all Nigerians to foster national unity and reject any rhetoric that seeks to divide the country. "Our shared destiny is undeniable, and the sacrifices of our military underscore the importance of strengthening our bond as one nation, never divided," General Oluyede affirmed.
