China Strengthens Security Ties with Nigeria Police

The Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, has pledged to strengthen cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force in areas such as training and security collaboration. This commitment was made during a visit by a Chinese delegation to the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Headquarters in Lagos.

Delegation Visit

Yan Yuqing, represented by Deputy Consul General Wang Yue, stated that the enhanced cooperation would begin to manifest within a short period. The delegation included officials from the Shandong Provincial Public Security Department, who were in Nigeria on an official working visit aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the two institutions.

Members of the delegation included Vice Mayor of Dongying City and Director of the Municipal Public Security Bureau, Zhao Hai; Chief of International Cooperation Corps, Hou Xianhe; Chief of Exit-Entry Administration, Liu Zongbu; Head of the Fifth Detachment, Wang Yuanming; and Deputy Chief of Cyber Security Corps, Xu Wenlei.

Strategic Importance

Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, emphasized the strategic position of Zone 2 within the Nigeria Police Force architecture. He expressed confidence that the visit would deepen the cordial relationship between both institutions.

Jimoh noted that the engagement would create opportunities for future collaboration in areas such as police training and capacity building, cybercrime prevention, transnational crime detection, counter-terrorism strategies, regional cooperation, forensic investigations, technological policing solutions, personnel development, and social harmony.

Shared Goals

“As law enforcement agencies operating within different cultural and geographical environments, we share a common goal: the protection of lives and property, as well as the preservation of peace and public order,” Jimoh said. “It is through partnerships like this that we can collectively address evolving security challenges confronting the global community.”

He added that the visit was expected to pave the way for lasting cooperation and mutual understanding between the Nigeria Police Force and the Shandong Provincial Public Security Department. “This visit is also anchored on the exchange of mutual cooperation. We are putting new strategies in place to ensure the safety of the people of Nigeria,” he concluded.
