The Defence Headquarters has officially confirmed that a coordinated terrorist attack on a military installation in Borno State resulted in the deaths of insurgents and a number of soldiers. The incident occurred at the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State, in the early hours of April 9, 2026.

According to a statement released by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, on Thursday, the attack took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. Insurgents attempted to breach the defensive perimeter of the brigade headquarters, but troops, under the leadership of Commander 29 Brigade, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, mounted a robust response.
The military statement highlighted that the troops demonstrated exceptional courage, professionalism, and superior firepower during the engagement. In a well-coordinated counteraction, the insurgents were decisively engaged and forced to retreat in disarray, abandoning their mission entirely.

The Defence Headquarters acknowledged that the encounter led to casualties among the military personnel.
