Former IGP Egbetokun Receives High Praise from Senator and Yewa Community Leaders
Former Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has been honoured by community leaders and praised by Senator Solomon Adeola for his impactful tenure, which brought pride and recognition to Yewaland in Ogun State. The commendation occurred during a reception organized by the Yewa People Development Council in collaboration with traditional rulers, celebrating Egbetokun's retirement in February and his contributions to policing and community development.
Senator Adeola Highlights Egbetokun's Commitment to Yewaland
Senator Solomon Adeola, representing Ogun West, emphasized that Egbetokun's achievements in office have significantly benefited the region. He noted that the former police chief consistently advocated for the political advancement of Yewaland, encouraging stakeholders to work towards producing a governor from Ogun West in the 2027 elections. Adeola stated, "We thank God for bringing our son back to us and we're celebrating him today. This is a man who has served and represented us very well, and we recognise all your transformative agenda and development strides in the police."
Adeola also credited Egbetokun with supporting the establishment of a proposed police university in Yewa, mentioning that the legislative process is complete and now awaits presidential approval. He added, "The IGP has called me several times to say that the governorship of Ogun State should not elude us. He has been holding several meetings to ensure that comes to reality, and I am sure in no distant time, that vision will soon be achieved."
Community Leaders Applaud Security Improvements and Conflict Resolution
Representing Governor Dapo Abiodun, the state's Head of Service, Kehinde Onosanya, highlighted Egbetokun's role in enhancing security across parts of Ogun State. Onosanya pointed out that interventions during farmer-herder conflicts were instrumental in restoring calm in affected communities, underscoring the former IGP's dedication to public safety.
Traditional rulers also joined in praising Egbetokun's legacy. Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, Kehinde Olugbenle, described his career as inspiring, noting that his rise to the top of the police hierarchy reflects determination and resilience. Olugbenle remarked, "While in service, you showed that you're truly a prince and a son that can be relied on. Your life is a testament that anyone with determination can rise to the pinnacle of his or her career."
Background on Egbetokun's Resignation and Successor Appointment
Earlier reports confirmed that Kayode Egbetokun resigned as Inspector-General of Police, with the presidency citing family issues requiring his undivided attention. Following his resignation, President Tinubu appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police, effective immediately. This transition marks a new chapter in Nigeria's police leadership, as the community continues to celebrate Egbetokun's enduring impact on both local and national development.
