LASG Enhances Security with 10-Month Training for Police, NSCDC, and Agencies
LASG Trains Police, NSCDC, and Security Agencies on Efficiency

Lagos State Government Launches Comprehensive Security Training Initiative

The Lagos State Government has officially commenced a significant training programme aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of security agencies within the state. This initiative, coordinated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), is designed to run over a 10-month period and will involve a total of 1,000 security personnel from various agencies, including the police and other key security bodies.

Commendations from Security Leadership

Keshinro Adedotun, the Lagos State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr Ayo Ogunsan, the Executive Secretary and CEO of LSSTF, for implementing this impactful initiative. He highlighted that such joint human capacity training is crucial for equipping security operatives with the intellectual tools necessary to perform their statutory duties effectively, thereby reducing unnecessary rivalry and friction among agencies.

Adedotun also extended his appreciation to commanders from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and other participating services, as well as the media, for their unwavering support since he assumed office. He described the invitation to this training programme as an unprecedented approach to strengthening the already solid relationships among all security agencies in Lagos State.

Focus on Human Capacity and Trust

Dr Ayo Ogunsan, the Secretary and CEO of LSSTF, emphasized that the training programme is built on high hopes and a clear focus on building human capacity, mutual trust, and operational efficiency among personnel. The goal is to meet the expectations of participants drawn from diverse security agencies, ultimately enhancing the overall security framework of the state.

Innovative Training Methods

The intellectual depth of the programme was further demonstrated by Dr Wale Adeagbo, the lead trainer from Halogen Group, who adopted a practical and psychological approach to security awareness. Using a visual exercise involving a complex image of animals, he illustrated the concept of perception gaps in threat detection. Adeagbo noted that while there are 16 animals in the image, many officers only saw eight or fewer, underscoring the importance of heightened situational awareness.

He urged participants to develop critical thinking skills, stating, "Insecurity is not always obvious. You must use your inner eyes. You cannot afford to see only eight when there are 16 threats." Adeagbo encouraged security personnel to discern beyond the obvious and lead within their spaces, aiming for personal transformation through the training.

Holistic Development Framework

Dr Adeagbo introduced a comprehensive framework for personal and professional development, highlighting four key resources: time, money, health, and knowledge. He discussed how these intersect with nine core life responsibilities, including family, faith, and social relationships. Delving into ethics, he outlined three foundational principles for public officers: public service, respect and empathy, and courage.

He stressed that effective security operations are deeply rooted in public trust, remarking, "Everyone in public safety relies on the consent of the public to work effectively. Your strengths are often identified by others, but your weaknesses are yours to discover." This holistic approach aims to foster a well-rounded development among security personnel, ensuring they are equipped not only professionally but also personally to handle the demands of their roles.
