LSSTF Executive Secretary Applauds Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency's Operational Excellence
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, has publicly commended the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) for its outstanding operational efficiency, technological advancements, and community-driven policing model. This commendation was delivered during a formal courtesy visit to the agency's headquarters, where Ogunsan was accompanied by the fund's Director of Administration, Mr Adegbola Lewis.
Reaffirming Commitment to Security Support
During the visit, Dr Ogunsan reaffirmed the LSSTF's unwavering commitment to providing sustained support for the LNSA and other security agencies across Lagos State. He emphasized that security is a cornerstone for economic growth, social stability, and bolstering investor confidence in the region. "Security remains central to our state's prosperity, and agencies like the LNSA play a pivotal role in maintaining peace," he stated.
Honors and Facility Inspection
Upon arrival, Ogunsan was received with a guard of honor and decorated with the LNSA Medal of Honour, along with a commemorative lapel pin, in recognition of his significant contributions to enhancing Lagos's security framework. The visit included a comprehensive tour of the agency's facilities, where Ogunsan inspected state-of-the-art equipment such as surveillance drones and body-worn cameras. These tools are deployed to support intelligence gathering and enable rapid response to incidents.
Community-Based Policing Model
The LNSA, established by the Lagos State Government as a community-based security outfit, works in tandem with conventional law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police. Its core responsibilities encompass:
- Intelligence gathering at the grassroots level
- Conducting regular patrols
- Crime prevention initiatives
- Fostering peaceful coexistence within local communities
Personnel are largely drawn from local areas, leveraging their intimate familiarity with neighbourhoods to monitor activities, mediate disputes, and provide actionable intelligence.
Leadership and Strategic Focus
Speaking after the inspection, Dr Ogunsan acknowledged the agency's remarkable progress under the leadership of its General Manager, Dr Ifalade Oyekan, and praised the dedication of its personnel. He highlighted that the agency's strength lies in its community-focused approach, noting that officers who live and serve within their communities enhance public trust and improve intelligence gathering capabilities. "This model reflects sustained investment and a clear focus on public safety, making it a benchmark for others," he added.
Gratitude and Future Collaboration
In response, Dr Oyekan expressed deep appreciation for the continued support from the LSSTF, describing it as vital to the agency's operational success. He reiterated that the neighbourhood-based policing structure remains central to the LNSA's strategy for proactive crime prevention and effective service delivery. The visit underscored the ongoing collaboration among security stakeholders in Lagos, aimed at strengthening intelligence-led and community-based approaches to address emerging security challenges.
