In a significant escalation of its campaign against insurgency, the Nigerian military has announced major successes in its operations across the Northwest region between 17 and 26 November 2025. The offensive has dealt substantial blows to terrorist networks, leading to numerous arrests, rescues, and the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition.
Key Operations and Arrests
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, confirmed the breakthroughs in a weekly press statement. He detailed that troops under Operation Fasan Yamma intensified their actions across several states, including Zamfara, Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, and Niger States.
A pivotal moment in the campaign occurred on 19 November 2025, when forces apprehended a notorious terrorist logistics supplier in Bukkuyum, Zamfara State. Investigations revealed transaction records of N4 million intended for arms procurement. The suspect was also found to be in possession of weapons and uniforms belonging to a major terrorist group.
Airstrikes and Rescues
Further demonstrating the military's renewed momentum, airstrikes were conducted on 20 November targeting terrorist enclaves at Pauwa hill in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State. The aerial bombardment was highly successful, destroying multiple camps and killing scores of terrorists.
Throughout the reported period, the military's aggressive posture yielded impressive results: dozens of terrorists were neutralised, fifteen were arrested, and thirteen kidnapped victims were rescued from captivity. These operations have severely disrupted the activities of the terrorist groups in the zone.
A Coordinated National Effort
Major General Onoja emphasized that these successes were not isolated to the Northwest. The operations covered all Joint Task Force theatres nationwide, showcasing a coordinated effort. This includes the North East (Operation Hadin Kai), North Central (Operation Safe Haven and Operation Whirl Stroke), South-South (Operation Delta Safe), and South East (Operation Udoka).
The recovery of large quantities of arms, ammunition, and materials for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) underscores a critical blow to the operational capabilities of these criminal elements. The military has also arrested several informants and logistics suppliers, cutting off vital support lines for the terrorists.
This series of operations marks a significant step in the military's ongoing mission to restore peace and security to the troubled Northwest region, bringing hope to residents who have long suffered from the activities of these violent groups.
