Nigeria to Host Inaugural Africa International Defence Exhibition in 2026
Nigeria Hosts Africa Defence Exhibition 2026

Nigeria is set to host the inaugural Africa International Defence Exhibition in 2026, marking a significant milestone in the continent's evolving security landscape. The event reflects Africa's growing commitment to enhancing defence capabilities and fostering regional cooperation.

Major Continental Security Initiative

The Federal Ministry of Defence, in partnership with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) and dmg events, has announced plans for the landmark defence exhibition scheduled for October 26-29, 2026 at Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island, Lagos. This initiative underscores Africa's rapidly developing defence and security ecosystem, driven by increasing investments across multiple domains including air, land, maritime, cyber, and space security.

The exhibition is expected to attract over 30,000 visitors, featuring 500 exhibitors, 200 speakers, and official delegations from more than 100 countries. The event will showcase cutting-edge defence technologies from global companies, regional industries, and emerging innovators, providing a comprehensive platform for engagement and capability building.

Nigeria's Leadership in Regional Security

Nigeria continues to play a pivotal role in shaping defence priorities across Africa. The nation's commitment to security is demonstrated by its proposed 2025 defence budget of N4.91 trillion and a historical average growth rate of 9.6% in military spending since 1965. This financial commitment supports ongoing modernization initiatives, strengthened counter-terrorism strategies, and increased deployment of surveillance systems and unmanned platforms.

As Africa's largest economy, Nigeria provides an ideal setting for this global defence forum, connecting international manufacturers and service providers with governments and armed forces throughout the continent. The exhibition will feature live demonstrations across multiple operational domains, specialist theatre sessions, a hosted-buyer programme, and both strategic and technical conferences.

Strategic Partnerships and Future Impact

Dr. Bello Matawalle, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, described the exhibition as a major milestone for regional defence collaboration and industrial advancement. He emphasized Nigeria's dedication to reinforcing military capacity while supporting broader continental stability.

Major General Babatunde Ibrahim Alaya, Director General of DICON, highlighted the opportunity to showcase Nigeria's defence-industrial potential and deepen collaboration with international partners. He stressed that the initiative will help strengthen indigenous capacity and contribute to a more secure and resilient Africa.

Christopher Hudson, President of dmg events, expressed pride in partnering with Nigerian defence institutions, noting that Nigeria's leadership and commitment to capability development position it at the forefront of Africa's security future.

The Africa International Defence Exhibition is poised to become an annual platform for policymakers, military leaders, manufacturers, technology developers, and researchers. The event will foster extensive opportunities for industrial cooperation, procurement, investment, and strategic partnerships, supporting Africa's long-term security ambitions and capability growth.
