The Nigerian Navy has officially commissioned several infrastructural projects at its Logistics College in Dawakin Tofa, Kano State, as part of activities commemorating its 70th anniversary. The projects were inaugurated by Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Chief of the Naval Staff, who was represented by the Navy Secretary, Rear Admiral Abdul-hamid Baba-Inna.
Commitment to Infrastructure and Welfare
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Admiral Abbas emphasized that the projects highlight the Federal Government's dedication to improving infrastructure, enhancing service delivery, and promoting the welfare of military personnel. He noted that the newly completed facilities would strengthen operational efficiency and provide a more conducive environment for both training and accommodation within the college.
According to him, the projects also reflect the Nigerian Navy's commitment to professionalism, community development, and national growth. Abbas commended the Kano State Government, security agencies, contractors, and members of the host community for their support in ensuring the successful completion of the projects. He further called for proper maintenance of the facilities to ensure their sustainability and long-term benefit to personnel and the surrounding community.
Details of the Commissioned Projects
The Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Logistics College, Commodore Abubakar Ahmed Madawaki, described the occasion as a significant milestone for the institution. He disclosed that the commissioned projects include a block of four classrooms, a block of sixteen two-bedroom flats, and two blocks containing twenty one-bedroom apartments.
Rear Admiral Madawaki explained that the classroom block will serve as part of the proposed Nigerian Navy Primary School, while the residential buildings were constructed to address accommodation challenges facing personnel of the college. He revealed that many staff members had previously been living in rented apartments and temporary facilities, describing the situation as unsuitable and unsustainable.
The Commandant appreciated the Chief of the Naval Staff for his continued support toward the growth and development of the college and commended the project team for ensuring the timely completion of the buildings.
Ceremony Highlights
The event attracted heads of security agencies, senior naval officers, and other dignitaries. Highlights included a tree-planting exercise and the unveiling of the newly completed structures, symbolizing the Navy's commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.
