NSCDC Deploys Drones and Body Cameras Nationwide as CG Issues Discipline Warning
The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Audi Abubakar, has officially rolled out advanced surveillance and operational equipment to state commands across the country. During the corps' annual strategic meeting held at the National Headquarters in Abuja on March 27, 2026, Abubakar issued a stern warning that any form of indiscipline within the corps will attract severe sanctions.
Mandate for Professionalism and Discipline
Addressing state commanders and senior officers, Abubakar described the renewal of his tenure by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a clear mandate to deepen professionalism, discipline, and operational efficiency throughout the NSCDC. He emphasized that the corps is entering a critical new phase that demands strict adherence to ethical standards.
"We are in a critical phase where discipline and professionalism must define our operations. Any officer found wanting will face the full weight of sanctions," Abubakar stated firmly. He highlighted that loyalty, resilience, and dedication to duty would be appropriately rewarded, while misconduct would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Operational Gains and Personnel Welfare
The NSCDC boss noted significant progress in improving personnel welfare, including the resolution of salary arrears and promotion backlogs, which he said has substantially boosted morale and productivity among officers. On operational achievements, Abubakar disclosed that the corps has successfully dismantled over 400 illegal refineries and secured numerous arrests and prosecutions of suspects involved in oil theft, smuggling, and illegal mining activities.
Deployment of Modern Security Equipment
As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen operations, Abubakar unveiled a comprehensive suite of modern equipment designed to enhance surveillance capabilities, improve response times, and ensure officer safety. Each state command has now been equipped with:
- Drones for aerial surveillance and monitoring
- GPS-enabled tracking systems for precise location data
- Mini-tablet operational kits for field documentation
- Real-time situation room connectivity tools
Additional tactical gear distributed includes bulletproof vests, helmets, combat boots, body cameras, night-vision goggles, electric batons, and other essential operational equipment. This deployment represents a broader strategy to integrate advanced technology into security operations and more effectively tackle threats such as banditry, illegal mining, and vandalism of critical national infrastructure.
