Seven Soldiers Killed as Troops Repel Terrorist Attack in Borno State
In a tragic incident, seven soldiers lost their lives on Sunday as troops of the Nigerian Army successfully repelled a terrorist attack on their Charlie 13 position in Monguno, Borno State. The attack occurred in the late hours of April 12, 2026, and was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI.
Details of the Attack and Casualties
According to the statement, troops from Sector 3 of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI came under an isolated terrorist attack at the Charlie 13 location in Monguno. Following intense fire exchanges, the terrorists were forced to retreat, with the troops maintaining control of the position. However, the situation took a devastating turn when the Commanding Officer, while courageously proceeding to assess the situation, encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The IED severely affected his vehicle, leading to his death alongside six other gallant personnel. Lieutenant Colonel Uba praised the late Commanding Officer, highlighting his actions as reflecting the highest traditions of military leadership, including courage, selfless service, and leading from the front. He noted that the officer's willingness to move towards the troops in the heat of battle, despite the prevailing danger, stands as a profound testament to his valour and unwavering commitment to his men.
Response and Mourning
Operation HADIN KAI has expressed deep mourning over the loss of this exceptional officer and the other brave personnel who paid the supreme price in service to the nation. Uba emphasized that their sacrifice will forever remain etched in the memory of the Armed Forces and the grateful nation they served.
