Nigerian Troops Launch Decisive Operations Against Insurgents in Plateau State
In a significant escalation of counter-insurgency efforts, troops from Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), operating under the special mandate of Operation Wutan Daji (OPWD), have executed a series of intensive clearance operations in Plateau State. These coordinated missions, conducted in partnership with local vigilantes, targeted known insurgent corridors and resulted in the neutralization of suspected terrorists, the dismantling of criminal hideouts, and the arrest of a kidnapper, marking a robust response to security threats in the region.
Fierce Firefight Leads to Terrorist Neutralization and Arms Recovery
On April 4, 2026, the joint force engaged in a fierce firefight with armed terrorists while traversing the Babangida–Adua road in Wase Local Council. The superior firepower of the troops led to the immediate killing of two suspects, with others retreating into the dense Dutsen Zaki forest with gunshot wounds. Following the encounter, a thorough search of the area yielded a significant recovery of arms and ammunition, including one locally fabricated firearm, a belt containing 105 rounds of 7.62mm PKT ammunition, 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a cutlass, as confirmed by Capt. Chinonso Oteh, the Media Information Officer of OPEP.
Tactical Engagements and Kidnapper Arrest in Separate Incidents
In a separate tactical engagement aimed at curbing illegal arms flow and neutralizing kidnapping syndicates, troops stationed in the Namu District of Qua’an Pan Local Council acted on credible intelligence regarding suspicious movements of armed individuals on April 5, 2026. The rapid mobilization led to the successful interception of four suspected terrorists. During subsequent maneuvers to locate and dismantle their hideout, the unit came under heavy fire from the terrorists' associates, resulting in three of the apprehended suspects attempting to escape and being neutralized.
Additionally, on the same day, troops in Shendam Local Council collaborated with local residents to apprehend a suspected kidnapper at Gidan Mangoro village. The suspect is allegedly linked to a kidnapping incident that occurred on April 3, 2026. All suspects are currently in custody for further investigation and legal action, underscoring the ongoing efforts to address criminal activities in the state.
Commitment to Restoring Peace and Security in Plateau
These operations highlight the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian military and its local partners to restoring peace and security in Plateau State. Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest security post as clearance efforts continue. The coordinated actions across multiple local councils demonstrate a strategic approach to dismantling insurgent networks and enhancing public safety in the region.
