In a significant counter-terrorism operation, Nigerian military forces have successfully intercepted a convoy suspected of delivering critical supplies to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The operation, which took place in Yobe State, highlights ongoing efforts to cripple the logistical networks of terrorist groups in the region.
Operation Based on Credible Intelligence
The successful interdiction was carried out by troops from Sector 2 of the Nigerian Army, who acted in close collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). According to security sources, the operation was launched following specific and credible human intelligence reports. These reports indicated the movement of the suspicious logistics from the Dapchi area through the Magumeri general area in Borno State.
Acting swiftly on this tip-off, the security team tracked and intercepted two pickup vans. The drivers of both vehicles were immediately taken into custody for detailed interrogation to uncover their connections and the intended destination of the goods.
A Detailed Inventory of Seized Items
A thorough search of the intercepted vehicles revealed a wide array of items, underscoring the diverse nature of supplies being funneled to the terrorist enclaves. The recovered cache included:
- 31 spare tyres and 23 spare rims for vehicle maintenance.
- Automotive parts: 12 key starters and 3 alternators.
- Foodstuffs: 2 bags of flour, 34 tubers of yam, and nylon bags containing garri.
- Domestic items: 1 mattress, 2 blankets, and assorted adult and children's clothing.
- Other goods: 5 bags of charcoal, 2 bicycles, 6 mobile phones, 1 power bank.
- A cash sum of N92,600.
All the seized items and the two vehicles are currently in military custody as a critical part of the evidence chain.
Ongoing Investigations and Security Resolve
Investigations are actively ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects' involvement and to trace any possible links to broader ISWAP logistics networks operating in the North East. Security analysts note that disrupting the flow of such supplies—ranging from food and fuel to mechanical parts—is vital for degrading the operational capability of terrorist groups.
Military sources have reaffirmed the commitment of the troops to sustaining pressure on criminal elements across their area of responsibility. This operation is seen as a direct blow to ISWAP's attempts to re-supply, especially during a period when the military has intensified ground and air campaigns against their hideouts.
The collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the Civilian JTF continues to prove invaluable, combining formal military strength with local knowledge and vigilance to secure the region.
