Troops Kill 5 Terrorists, Rescue 3 in Borno

In a significant victory against insurgency, Nigerian military forces have eliminated five terrorists and successfully rescued three abducted civilians in Borno State.

Successful Offensive in Konduga

The operation was conducted by troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). The offensive targeted terrorist elements in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, January 4, 2026, by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), the engagement occurred in the early hours of that day.

Coordinated Engagement Yields Results

The security forces engaged the terrorists at a known crossing point along the Sojiri axis. The encounter was decisive and well-executed.

Five terrorists were neutralised during the firefight, with no casualties reported among the troops or their civilian counterparts. This outcome highlights the precision and combat readiness of the forces involved.

The troops also achieved a critical humanitarian objective: the rescue of three civilians who had been held captive by the terrorist group. The operation also led to the recovery of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, and other materials from the scene.

Morale High, Commitment Resolute

The statement emphasised that the operation underscores OPHK's sustained aggressive posture against terrorist networks. It also highlighted the importance of effective collaboration with local security stakeholders in degrading the capabilities of insurgent groups.

Troops' morale remains high as security forces continue to assert dominance across the theatre of operations. Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to its core mandate: dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace and stability to Nigeria's North East region.
