US Soldier's Midnight Post Goes Viral Before Trump's ISIS Strike in Sokoto
US Soldier's Viral Post Before Sokoto ISIS Strike

A Nigerian serving in the United States military has become the centre of online attention after a social media post he made in the middle of the night accurately foreshadowed a US military action in Nigeria.

The Viral Midnight Message

The soldier, using the handle @Horiyourme on the X platform, posted a message at precisely 12:40 a.m. on December 26, 2025. This was several hours before Nigerian news outlets began reporting a US-led airstrike on an ISIS terrorist base in Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria.

His initial statement read: “Trump just approved a strike on a terrorist camp in Nigeria as a holiday strike.” He followed this with a more pointed message, writing: “You lot will wake up to the news of the strike. You ask when we're coming. We are here. Terrorist apologists… remember I asked you to put body. Now is the time.”

Confirmation and Presidential Statement

Later, the soldier shared the official confirmation from US President Donald Trump. The presidential statement declared: “Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, even centuries.”

This action confirmed predictions the soldier had been making in recent weeks regarding US military plans for Nigeria in response to terrorist activities.

Nigerian Social Media Erupts

The soldier's posts and the subsequent strike triggered a flood of reactions from Nigerians online, with many expressing support for the intervention.

@EddyJames___ commented: “The president tall christians.. by the time those aboki wake up Dem go begin shout online.”

@Murphy_Defi stated: “Na sooo! Yuletide gifts from POTUS to baby N!gerian Terrorists.”

User @damtosfashion noted a potential geopolitical concern: “I pray other African countries supporting Nigeria will not come together to stand against this intervention.”

@King_emmana1 praised the covert nature of the operation: “So this is what this bro came for? Everyone thought you came to celebrate Christmas when you were taking pictures with cows. Una well done sirs. Subsequent ones should be loud, swift and massive.”

While overwhelmingly positive, some voices questioned the soldier's conduct. @Subomy147536 asked: “Na USA soldier be this? Taliban would not behave foolish like this or should I say America is also producing radicals as army...... Nigeria govt approved it.”

The viral episode highlights the complex intersection of international security, social media, and domestic counter-terrorism efforts in Nigeria. It also underscores how digital platforms allow military personnel to inadvertently or intentionally shape public perception of ongoing operations long before official announcements are made.
