In a significant move to bolster national security, the Nigeria Police Force has withdrawn thousands of officers from personal protection duties for Very Important Personalities across the country.

Massive Police Redeployment Under Presidential Directive

The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has officially confirmed that 11,566 police officers previously assigned to VIP protection duties have been withdrawn from their posts. This major security shake-up follows a direct order from President Bola Tinubu aimed at strengthening community policing and national security.

The disclosure came during a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja on Thursday, November 20, 2025. IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the presidential directive grants him full authority to implement the measure without interference from any quarters.

No VIP Can Question This Decision

During the Abuja meeting, the police chief made it clear that no VIP would be allowed to challenge the recall of their security personnel. "No VIP will question the recall of their security personnel since this instruction comes directly from the President," Egbetokun stated firmly.

The massive withdrawal represents one of the most significant police redeployment exercises in recent years, affecting thousands of officers who were previously dedicated to protecting influential individuals across Nigeria.

Enhanced Security Collaboration and Professionalism

While addressing the senior officers, the IGP called on all police personnel to maintain professionalism and remain dedicated to securing the nation. He highlighted the importance of continuous efforts to curb criminal activities nationwide.

"We must work round the clock to ensure the safety of all Nigerians and prevent any breach of law and order," Egbetokun emphasized during the meeting.

The police force is also strengthening its collaboration with other security agencies to effectively tackle existing security challenges. "The police will not relent in addressing the current security threats. Our focus is on national safety and the protection of citizens," the IGP reassured the public.

This strategic redeployment is part of a broader security enhancement plan rather than a move to compromise protection for any individual. The withdrawn officers are expected to be reassigned to critical security duties that will benefit the general population and strengthen the police presence in communities across Nigeria.
