New AIG Moshood Jimoh Assumes Command at Zone 2, Issues Stern Warning to Officers

The newly promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Moshood Jimoh, has officially assumed duty as the senior officer in charge of Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force. This significant appointment follows his elevation from the rank of Commissioner of Police to Assistant Inspector General, with his official resumption taking place on Monday, March 30.

Zero Tolerance for Misconduct and Corruption

In his inaugural address, AIG Jimoh delivered a firm warning to all officers under his command, emphasizing that his administration will not tolerate any form of misconduct. He declared that erring officers will face strict disciplinary action, underscoring his commitment to maintaining high standards within the force.

Jimoh also announced a zero-tolerance policy for corruption and human rights violations, stressing that the credibility of the Nigeria Police Force must be restored through ethical conduct and responsible engagement with the public. He highlighted the importance of rebuilding public trust by ensuring that all police actions align with legal and ethical standards.

Commitment to Public Safety and Crime Prevention

The AIG expressed confidence in his team, including the commissioners of police in Lagos and Ogun states, to enhance safety and security in the region. He stated, "The task before us is quite enormous, but I’m confident with the team I have — the entire police officers and the commissioners of police in Lagos and Ogun states — for their commitment to ensuring the safety of life and property and, equally, the prevention of crime and the detection of those crimes that cannot be prevented."

Jimoh further outlined his vision to take policing to the next level in Zone 2, aiming to make security services more accessible to residents. He assured the public, "We are going to equally put policing at the doorstep of every good people of these two states in ensuring that they are safe both at home, on the streets, and in workplaces. They shouldn’t have any fear of apprehension as they go about their normal activities in these two states."

Human Rights Compliance and Operational Reforms

Emphasizing human rights, AIG Jimoh pledged 100% compliance in all police operations. He asserted, "We are going to ensure that we are human-rights compliant. 100 percent, in everything that will be done. Anything that is done, which is not in the public interest and doesn’t guarantee human rights and dignity, is nothing but against the law."

Additionally, he addressed operational issues, announcing an end to the flagrant and indiscriminate transfer of cases from lower levels to zonal headquarters. Jimoh clarified that the zone will only handle special cases or those specifically assigned by the Inspector-General of Police, in line with established protocols. He affirmed, "We ensure that we comply with the dictate of the inspector-general of police in this regard."

This leadership change marks a pivotal moment for Zone 2 Command, as AIG Jimoh sets a new tone focused on accountability, transparency, and enhanced public safety in Lagos and Ogun states.
