Borno Police Command Reviews Security in Border Areas and Black Spots
The Borno State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive review of the security situations in border communities and other identified black spots across the state. This strategic initiative aims to address threats to lives and property through enhanced vigilance and operational measures.
Strategic Security Meeting Convened
According to the Command, a strategic security meeting was held on February 13, 2026, convened by the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid. The meeting included tactical commanders, area commanders, and 27 Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) from across the state. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nahum Daso, confirmed this in a statement issued in Maiduguri.
The one-day meeting focused on reviewing the prevailing security situation in border communities and other identified black spots. Abdulmajid emphasized the need for heightened operational vigilance, professionalism, and sustained alertness among all officers in their respective areas of responsibility.
Proactive Policing and Enhanced Measures
During the meeting, the Commissioner of Police highlighted the importance of proactive policing, enhanced intelligence gathering, and effective deployment of personnel to forestall any threats to public safety. He directed the reinforcement of police formations, particularly those in remote communities and local councils, with additional logistics and operational resources.
This move is designed to strengthen the capacity of these formations in safeguarding people's lives and property. Abdulmajid also announced that, as part of efforts to boost public confidence and deter criminal elements, the Command will collaborate with other security agencies to commence joint show-of-force operations.
Joint Operations and Public Reassurance
The joint operations are intended to achieve what the Commissioner described as "enhanced visibility policing across strategic locations within the state." While reassuring residents of the Command's unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, Abdulmajid urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.
He also issued a warning against the spread of unverified information, which could create unnecessary panic or tension in the state. This comprehensive review and the subsequent measures underscore the police's dedication to maintaining security and order in Borno's vulnerable areas.
