Federal Government Announces Nationwide Screening Schedule for 50,000 Police Constables
The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a crucial update regarding the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force, confirming that comprehensive physical and credential screening will be conducted across the nation from March 9 to April 18, 2026. This announcement specifically targets all candidates who have successfully completed the initial online registration phase of this significant recruitment drive.
Official Notice and Screening Logistics
The official notice, signed by Police Service Commission spokesperson Torty Njoku Kalu and dated February 24, 2026, from the Commission's Abuja headquarters, provides detailed instructions for applicants. Successful candidates are required to access the official recruitment portal to verify their status and print essential documents, including invitation slips that specify their designated screening venue, date, and time.
According to the released guidelines, applicants must present the following documents at their screening centers:
- Guarantors' form and application submission slip
- Invitation slip, credentials screening form, and physical screening form
- National Identity Number printout or card from NIMC
- Original and duplicate copies of O'Level certificates
- Birth certificate or declaration of age document
- Local government or state of origin certificate
- Trade test certificates for specialist applicants where applicable
All credentials must be neatly organized in two separate white flat files with recent passport photographs attached. Additionally, candidates must adhere to a strict dress code of white canvas shoes, white T-shirts, white shorts, and white stockings when appearing at their assigned screening locations.
Commission Reiterates Free Recruitment Process
Police Service Commission Chairman Hashimu Salihu Argungu has emphatically reaffirmed that the entire recruitment exercise is completely free of charge and requires no financial obligations from applicants. He assured the public that the process would be conducted with maximum transparency and in accordance with established best practices.
"The recruitment exercise is absolutely free of charge and without any pecuniary obligation," Argungu stated, while issuing a stern warning against fraudulent activities. He cautioned applicants to remain vigilant against scammers and online impostors attempting to exploit the recruitment process, emphasizing that anyone caught attempting to defraud applicants would face immediate arrest and prosecution.
Screening Venues and Additional Context
The screening exercise will be conducted at approved locations across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with specific venues indicated on each applicant's invitation slip. This massive recruitment initiative comes amid broader police force developments, including recent leadership changes that have seen President Bola Ahmed Tinubu direct Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to resign, with Assistant Inspector-General Tunji Disu expected to assume the position following proper handover procedures.
The Police Service Commission has emphasized that this recruitment drive represents a significant step toward enhancing national security and improving police-citizen ratios across Nigeria. Applicants are advised to strictly follow all published guidelines and report any suspicious activities to appropriate authorities immediately.
