Houston Police Officer Relieved of Duty Following Viral Racist Rant Video
The Houston Police Department has initiated a formal investigation into one of its officers after a video circulating on social media appeared to depict her making explicitly racist remarks. Officer Ashley Gonzalez has been relieved of duty pending the outcome of this probe, as confirmed by local reports.
Video Content and Controversial Remarks
Authorities are currently reviewing the viral video, which features a woman believed to be Gonzalez recounting an incident where her wallet was nearly stolen. In the footage, the woman identifies the suspect as Black and openly admits to using a racial slur during the confrontation.
She states, “Y’all don’t know how good it felt to say n***** out loud. Oh my God, I felt like I was back in the Marine Corps.” The video also includes additional controversial comments regarding slavery and racial discrimination, with repeated use of the same offensive slur.
Background and Union Response
According to available reports, Gonzalez previously served in the United States Marine Corps from 2019 to 2023, achieving the rank of corporal. The Houston Police Officers' Union has issued a statement expressing deep concern over the incident.
The union noted it was “extremely disturbed by a video circulating on social media regarding an officer making offensive, racist comment.” While the police department has not released further specifics, it has affirmed that the matter is under active investigation to determine appropriate actions.
