IGP Tunji Disu Urges Police to Treat Citizens with Respect and Civility
IGP Disu Directs Police to Treat Citizens with Respect

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has issued a directive to officers of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that citizens are treated with civility and professionalism. He made this statement on Saturday during a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Governor's Office Correspondents (LAGOCO) in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Disu emphasized that officers must recognize citizens as their "bosses." He stated, "I have told the officers not to bring the name of the Rapid Response Squad down. They must treat members of the public as their bosses because they are paid with taxpayers' money."

Disu, who previously served as the RRS commander in Lagos, also highlighted his long-standing relationship with journalists, describing the media as critical partners in maintaining transparency and public confidence. He noted that the media plays a vital role in bridging the gap between the police and the public.

The IGP further revealed that his visit to Lagos was aimed at engaging with key stakeholders, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, senior police officials, and RRS personnel. The engagement focused on reinforcing discipline, professionalism, and respect for human rights within the Force.

Commending the police boss, the Chairman of LAGOCO, George Okojie, praised Disu's people-oriented leadership style, describing him as humble and accessible. Okojie expressed confidence in Disu's leadership, noting that it offers hope for continued improvement in policing across Nigeria.

This directive comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance police-community relations and ensure that officers uphold the highest standards of conduct while serving the public.
