Imo Police Commissioner Pledges Secure Eid-El-Fitr Celebrations Across the State
Commissioner of Police for Imo State, Audu Garba Bosso, has provided firm assurances to residents, particularly the Muslim community, that the upcoming Eid-El-Fitr festivities will be conducted in a peaceful and uninterrupted manner throughout the region. This commitment was emphasized during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Owerri, where he also showcased 75 criminal suspects apprehended in March for various offences.
Enhanced Security Deployments for Festive Period
CP Bosso detailed that comprehensive security arrangements have been implemented to safeguard all celebratory activities. He highlighted the deployment of robust security forces to key locations, including mosques, prayer grounds, and recreational centers. Additionally, intensified visibility patrols are being conducted on major roads and in public spaces to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents during the Eid-El-Fitr celebrations.
"I wish to assure all Imolites, both at home and in the diaspora, that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure that the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations are hitch-free in Imo State," stated Bosso. "There will be maximum deployment of security personnel at worship centers and recreational facilities, while ensuring free movement of traffic throughout the State."
Public Advisory and Community Cooperation
In his address, the Commissioner extended congratulations to Muslim faithful for successfully completing the Ramadan fast and issued important advisories to the public. He urged travelers to drive safely and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to promote a secure and tranquil festive season. Furthermore, Bosso called on all Imo State residents to remain law-abiding, maintain vigilance, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station.
He expressed hopes that the celebrations would foster sustained peace, unity, and safety across the state, reinforcing the community's collective efforts towards harmony.
Significant Crime Reduction and Arrests
The Imo Police Commissioner also reported on the command's ongoing proactive and intelligence-driven operations, which have yielded substantial successes in combating crime. "I am pleased to report that as a result of these concerted efforts, the crime wave in Imo State has drastically reduced, creating a safer environment for residents and visitors alike," he affirmed.
During the period under review, the command arrested 75 suspects involved in a range of criminal activities, including:
- Kidnapping
- Armed robbery
- Cultism
- Terrorism linked to IPOB/ESN
- Murder
- Stealing
Substantial recoveries were made, encompassing:
- Three AK-47 rifles
- Three magazines
- 65 rounds of live ammunition
- Two locally made pistols
- One Beretta pistol
- Six stolen motorcycles

CP Bosso concluded by appealing to the public for ongoing cooperation, emphasizing the critical role of credible and timely information in enhancing police effectiveness. "To this end, I urge all Imolites to continue to support the Police with credible and timely information.
