Kogi CP Commends NHRC for Upholding Rights

The Kogi State Police Command has publicly praised the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for its unwavering work in promoting and enforcing the fundamental rights and dignity of all individuals within the state.

CP Kankarofi Lauds Timely Advocacy

This commendation was delivered by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, during a visit by officials from the NHRC's Kogi State office. The visit was part of activities to commemorate the 2025 International Human Rights Day.

While receiving the delegation, CP Kankarofi described the Commission's efforts as timely, purposeful, and essential. He stated that their advocacy is crucial for strengthening the broader human rights framework in Kogi State.

A Call for Constructive Oversight

The Police Commissioner reiterated the Command's firm commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of all persons, in strict adherence to constitutional and professional policing standards. He made a direct appeal to the NHRC to act as the "eyes and ears" of the Police Command.

Kankarofi urged the Commission to conduct unannounced visits to police stations, detention facilities, and other areas of interest. He encouraged them to promptly report any observed lapses or concerns regarding human rights compliance to the Command's leadership.

He noted that such constructive oversight would be invaluable in helping the Police Command improve its service delivery and reinforce accountability mechanisms.

Strengthening Synergy for Justice

CP Kankarofi placed significant emphasis on the importance of building a strong, collaborative relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the National Human Rights Commission. He stressed that a transparent, cooperative, and sustained partnership would yield positive outcomes.

The ultimate goal of this synergy, as highlighted by the CP, is to promote justice, ensure fairness, and enhance the protection of fundamental human rights for every resident of Kogi State.

NHRC Responds with Commitment

In his response, the State Coordinator of the NHRC in Kogi State, Barr. Nuhu Mohammed, commended Commissioner Kankarofi for the notable achievements recorded since he assumed office.

Mohammed affirmed the Commission's readiness to work closely with the Police Command, as encouraged by the CP. He expressed confidence that this strengthened partnership would meaningfully contribute to improving human rights standards and building greater trust within the community.

This engagement marks a renewed commitment to cooperation, shared responsibility, and accountability in advancing human rights protection and the overall safety of Kogi State residents.
