Rumors of a possible cult clash in Lagos began circulating after the killing of a middle-aged man named Adedipe Adeyinka, popularly known as "Agali," by suspected cultists in the Surulere area on Saturday, April 11. The viral alert referenced specific locations, including Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda, and the Ishaga axis, alleging plans for a retaliatory attack.
Police Statement and Reassurance
In a statement released on Monday, April 13, the command's spokesperson, SP Adebisi Abimbola, described the rumors as "false" and emphasized that the police have taken proactive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order. She stated, "The Lagos State Police Command wishes to address the circulating message alleging a possible cult-related clash in some areas of the State. The Command wishes to categorically state that it has taken proactive and decisive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the affected areas and beyond."

Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai has directed intensified patrols, strategic positioning of officers, and increased police visibility across identified flashpoints to ensure safety.
