The Benue State Police Command has brought a tragic closure to a six-month-long mystery with the recovery of skeletal remains believed to be those of a missing police inspector.
Discovery After Months of Disappearance
Authorities confirmed that the suspected remains of Police Inspector Mohammed Yakubu were found in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. Inspector Yakubu, who was attached to the 13 PMF unit of Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF), was reported missing on June 13, 2025. His disappearance occurred at Tse Keleke, a location roughly 10 kilometers away from Daudu.
Joint Operation Leads to Recovery
The breakthrough came on December 18, 2025, at about 9:30 AM, following intelligence reports. The information indicated that a decayed body, suspected to be the missing officer, had been sighted in a bush area near the original scene where he vanished.
A large and coordinated joint team was immediately mobilized to the location. The team composition highlights the seriousness with which the case was treated:

- The DPO of Daudu Division
- Police medical personnel
- Operatives from the State Intelligence Service (SIS)
- Personnel from the 13 PMF and Operation Zenda JTF
- The Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU)

This combined force successfully recovered the skeletonized remains, which were then transported to the 13 PMF base for further procedures.

The Benue State Police Command has described this development as providing closure to what had been a protracted missing-in-action case. Authorities stated that, following the necessary consultations and formalities, the remains will be released to the family of Inspector Yakubu. This will allow the bereaved family to conduct a befitting burial for their loved one.
