The Ogun State Police Command has officially welcomed a fresh batch of officers into its ranks, with the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, charging them to uphold the highest standards of discipline and ethical conduct.
Orientation for New Recruits
In a statement released on 7 January 2026 by the Command's Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Oluseyi Babaseyi, it was disclosed that the command received officers recently posted after their Passing Out Parade and presidential commissioning.
These officers completed a mandatory five-year training program at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State. Upon their arrival in Ogun State, they were formally welcomed and immediately enrolled in a comprehensive orientation program.
This program was designed to familiarise them with the command's operational structure, daily routines, and the specific policing expectations within Ogun State.
Focus on Leadership and Community Policing
The orientation featured lectures delivered by the Commissioner of Police himself and the Command's Management Team. The core curriculum focused on several critical areas for effective policing:
- Leadership and Discipline: Building command responsibility and personal accountability.
- Professionalism and Ethics: Upholding the law while respecting human rights and the rule of law.
- Operational Readiness: Being proactive in crime prevention and response.
- Community Policing: Fostering a people-friendly approach to ensure public cooperation and safety.
CP Ogunlowo urged the newly commissioned officers to be law-abiding, people-friendly, and to integrate seamlessly into the command's ongoing efforts to ensure security. He emphasised that their conduct must reflect integrity and a commitment to protecting the lives and property of all citizens.
Boosting State Security Architecture
It is expected that the infusion of these newly trained personnel will significantly enhance the security architecture of Ogun State. They are to work collaboratively with existing officers and other security agencies to tackle the diverse security challenges facing the state.
The Commissioner of Police, who has been at the forefront of initiatives to make Ogun State crime-free, reiterated that the officers' arrival is a strategic boost to these efforts.
Public Warning on Drowning Incidents
In a related development, the Ogun State Police Command has issued an urgent warning to the public concerning a noticeable rise in drowning incidents across the state.
The command is urging all residents to exercise extreme caution when swimming in rivers, streams, or even managed swimming pools. Specifically, the police directed important safety guidelines to operators of hotels and recreational facilities.
These operators must ensure that all swimming pools on their premises are properly supervised, have clear depth markings, and that trained lifeguards are on duty at all times. Furthermore, essential safety equipment must be readily available for emergency use.
CP Lanre Ogunlowo added that avoidable loss of life is completely unacceptable. He stressed that all stakeholders, from facility managers to individual swimmers, must take personal and collective responsibility to ensure safety for themselves and others.
