Ogun Police Launch Major Joint Security Operation for Yuletide Season
Ogun Police Launch Joint Security Ops for Christmas

The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a significant joint security operation involving multiple agencies to bolster safety throughout the state during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Multi-Agency Force Deployed Across State

In a strategic move confirmed on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the police have partnered with a wide array of security bodies. Personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Amotekun Corps, the Ogun State Community Social Orientation and Security Corps (So-Safe), and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) are now part of the integrated operation.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, detailed the initiative in a statement released from Abeokuta. He explained that the core objective is to enhance patrols and fortify security on major highways and other critical locations.

Focus on Critical Highways and Strategic Points

Substantial deployments have been positioned along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Road, among other vital routes. This deployment strategy aims to guarantee the protection of lives and property while ensuring the unhindered movement of people and goods before, during, and after the yuletide celebrations.

Babaseyi further stated that the joint operations involve the use of patrol vehicles, tactical teams, and intelligence-gathering assets. This comprehensive approach is designed to reinforce security visibility and proactively deter criminal activities throughout the festive period.

Commissioner's Directives and Public Advisory

The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has mandated a massive deployment of officers for traffic control and other operational duties. This order is intended to ensure effective coverage and enable rapid response to incidents during and after the holidays.

While reassuring residents of adequate security measures, CP Ogunlowo emphasized that these operations would extend beyond the yuletide season. He also reiterated the existing ban on the use of fireworks and bangers, highlighting serious public safety concerns.

The Commissioner urged all residents to celebrate responsibly and to offer their full cooperation to all security agencies on duty. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or security concerns immediately.
