In a significant display of compassion beyond law enforcement, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, AIG Margaret Ochalla, spearheaded a humanitarian mission to two major healthcare facilities in Lagos.
Police Bring Relief to Hospital Patients
On 12 January 2026, AIG Ochalla, accompanied by her management team, visited the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yaba and the Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos. The core objective of the outreach was to identify with patients, with a special focus on those who are indigent, and to provide tangible support to alleviate the burdens associated with hospitalization.
The police delegation did not come empty-handed. They donated a range of essential items to the patients and went a crucial step further by settling outstanding medical bills for numerous individuals and families experiencing severe financial hardship. This direct intervention brought immediate relief and a renewed sense of hope to the beneficiaries.
Policing with Humanity and Compassion
Addressing the purpose of the visit, AIG Margaret Ochalla articulated a broader vision of policing. She emphasized that the role of the Nigeria Police Force extends far beyond the traditional realms of investigation and crime control.
"Policing is also fundamentally about humanity, compassion, and service," she stated. The AIG stressed that the Police must continuously explore avenues to make life more comfortable for the citizens they have sworn to protect and serve.
