Nigeria Police AIG Conducts Major Outreach at Obalende Motor Park During National Police Day
Police authorities marked the third day of the 2026 National Police Day with an extensive public sensitization program focusing on election violence prevention and road safety compliance across Lagos and Ogun states. The Zone 2 Command, under the leadership of Assistant Inspector General of Police Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, engaged directly with community stakeholders and commercial drivers to reinforce public order messages.
Dual Focus on Election Security and Traffic Compliance
The sensitization initiative addressed two critical areas of public safety simultaneously. At the Zonal Headquarters event, community stakeholders and Police Community Relations Committee members received detailed briefings on preventing electoral violence and ballot snatching. Participants were urged to maintain vigilance throughout electoral processes and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information.
Police officials emphasized that election-related crimes carry severe consequences, often resulting in loss of lives, property destruction, and prolonged social instability. The program outlined specific measures citizens can take to help prevent actions that undermine democratic processes.
Direct Engagement with Commercial Drivers
In a significant extension of the outreach program, the Zone 2 Command conducted a separate exercise targeting commercial drivers at the Obalende motor park in Lagos. This strategic location was chosen because commercial drivers operate at the heart of public movement and transportation networks.
AIG Jimoh personally addressed the drivers, reminding them that their conduct on roads directly impacts public safety and social order. The police chief delivered specific directives to the transportation professionals:
- Strict obedience to all traffic regulations and signals
- Complete avoidance of reckless driving behaviors
- Elimination of vehicle overloading practices
- Absolute prohibition of alcohol or drug consumption while operating vehicles
Police authorities stressed that compliance with road safety rules represents one of the most effective methods for reducing traffic accidents and protecting lives.
Sustained Commitment to Public Engagement
At the conclusion of the National Police Day activities, AIG Jimoh expressed gratitude to stakeholders and community members for their cooperation throughout the events. He reaffirmed the Zone 2 Command's commitment to ongoing public engagement initiatives designed to protect lives and property across both Lagos and Ogun states.
The outreach program forms part of broader efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen community relations and enhance public safety awareness. The dual focus on election security and road safety reflects the police administration's comprehensive approach to maintaining public order during both routine operations and special events like elections.
This initiative follows AIG Jimoh's recent assumption of duty at the Zone 2 Command, where he emphasized his commitment to human rights compliance and professional policing standards. The National Police Day activities provided an opportunity to translate these principles into practical community engagement.
