The Borno State Police Command has successfully prevented a potential catastrophe by safely recovering an unexploded explosive device planted at a telecommunications mast in Maiduguri.

Swift Response to Public Alert

According to a statement released on Monday, December 15, 2025, by the command's spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, vigilant residents raised the alarm about a suspicious object. The report came from the Federal Low Cost Area, specifically Chuskon, and was channeled through the Divisional Police Officer of the ITE Police Division at about 11:06 hours.

Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid psc, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Base 13 team in Maiduguri was immediately mobilized. The team swiftly cordoned off the area and, following strict safety protocols, rendered the dangerous device safe.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the unexploded ordnance (UXO) had two protruding wires and was deliberately placed to cause severe damage and havoc. The police also found items at the scene, including one hand plier, a T-shirt, and a pair of shoes. The individuals responsible for planting the device remain unidentified as investigations continue.

Community Sensitization and Heightened Security

  • Constant vigilance in residential and public areas.
  • Prompt reporting of any suspicious objects or activities to security agencies.
  • Continuous cooperation with the police to prevent security breaches.

The police command has reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. They have urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information. Normal activities have resumed in the area, but citizens are advised to remain security-conscious.
