In an official statement released on December 15 by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police clarified the rationale behind the move. Recent security evaluations have uncovered a troubling pattern: a significant increase in criminal activities involving vehicles with illegal tinted glass.
Criminals are allegedly exploiting these darkened windows to hide their identities during serious offences like armed robbery and kidnapping. The police assert that this loophole has been used by both individual offenders and organised criminal networks to facilitate violent crimes.
Clarification on Court Proceedings and Enforcement Timeline
The Force addressed the ongoing legal context, stating clearly that no court order has prevented it from applying existing laws governing vehicle tinted glass. The matter remains before a court, but the police maintain their legal authority to enforce the regulations.
The statement explained that the previous suspension of enforcement was a voluntary act of responsibility and transparency. It was intended to give drivers sufficient time to update their paperwork and complete the official registration process without feeling rushed. That grace period will now conclude.
Full enforcement is set to recommence on Friday, January 2, 2026.
