PSC Plans Recruitment of 50,000 Police Officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has taken a significant step towards bolstering the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force by convening a high-level strategic meeting to plan the recruitment of 50,000 new officers.

Stakeholders Unite for Massive Recruitment Drive

The crucial meeting was held at the PSC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. It brought together key representatives from the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry of Police Affairs, and the Federal Character Commission to fine-tune the ambitious recruitment process.

In his opening address, the Chairman of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), represented by DIG (Dr) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), reaffirmed the commission's commitment to a process that would strengthen both the capacity and the diversity of the police force. The exercise is to be guided by the core principles of fairness, equity, and merit.

Commitment to Federal Character and Gender Balance

A major highlight of the planning meeting was the strong emphasis on inclusivity. The PSC pledged strict adherence to Federal Character principles as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution. This ensures equitable representation of all states and geopolitical zones in the recruitment exercise.

Furthermore, the commission announced deliberate measures to encourage the application and recruitment of qualified female candidates. This focus on gender inclusivity aims to create a more balanced and representative police force that reflects the society it serves.

A Transparent, Technology-Driven Process

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya, who led the ministry's delegation, expressed optimism and assured full collaboration with the PSC. All agencies agreed to work in synergy to uphold the integrity of the exercise.

The commission has assured Nigerians that the entire recruitment process will be transparent, technology-driven, and publicly accessible. It is designed to be free from undue interference, with a strong focus on accountability and compliance with existing laws and guidelines.

The PSC confirmed that further details, including specific timelines for the application and selection stages, will be communicated to the public through official channels in due course. The official statement was signed by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol & Public Affairs, on December 4, 2025.

Public Warning Against Fraudulent Portals

In a related development, the Police Service Commission issued a stern warning to the public concerning fake recruitment advertisements. Officials described circulating reports on social media and unofficial websites about an open recruitment portal as "fake and entirely misleading."

The PSC clarified that no recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Police Force is currently ongoing, and no application portal has been opened. It cautioned that such publications are the handiwork of fraudsters seeking to exploit unsuspecting citizens.

The commission strongly advised the public to rely solely on announcements from its verified and official communication channels to avoid falling victim to scams. Prospective applicants were urged to disregard any unofficial information until an official commencement announcement is made.
