A Royal Navy helicopter crashed into a field in rural Devon, United Kingdom, early Wednesday morning, June 3, prompting a major emergency response and expressions of concern from Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

The incident occurred near Sourton Down, outside Okehampton, at approximately 4:00 a.m. local time. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the aircraft belonged to the Royal Navy and have sealed off the scene. Emergency services were alerted shortly after the crash.
A Royal Navy spokesperson stated: "An incident occurred involving a Royal Navy helicopter just before 0400 on Wednesday 3 June near Sourton, Devon. An investigation is underway and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

During Prime Minister's Questions, Sir Keir Starmer acknowledged the crash, saying: "I am aware of a Royal Navy helicopter crash this morning in Devon. This will be a deeply worrying time for the families and more information will be set out as soon as possible."
Eyewitness Accounts
Residents reported hearing a low-flying aircraft followed by several loud explosions shortly after 3 a.m. A search helicopter was seen hovering in the area afterward. One local posted on social media: "Heard a helicopter very low around us at 03.30 this morning, looked out, no lights but sound going towards Okehampton! Hope all ok." Another person wrote: "Thought there was a loud bang at 3 this morning."
Roads in the vicinity have been closed since around 5 a.m. as authorities continue their response. The number and condition of any casualties have not yet been publicly disclosed.
