In a powerful address delivered amid the nation's escalating security challenges, President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to unearthing and tackling the foundational causes of insecurity while promoting social cohesion across Nigeria.
A Charge to the New Guardians
The President's message was directed at the 1,187 newly commissioned Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) during the Passing-Out-Parade of Regular Course 7 at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, on Saturday. Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, President Tinubu reminded the officers of the immense trust placed in them and the dedication required to serve the nation.
He charged the police officers to be prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice in defence of the country whenever the need arises. Emphasizing their pivotal role, Tinubu stated, "As you embark on this noble journey, remember that you are not just enforcers of the law, you are guardians of our collective security and well-being. Your role is pivotal in maintaining peace, stability, and trust in our communities."
Federal Government's Support and Vision
President Tinubu used the occasion to outline his administration's comprehensive support plan for the security forces. He pledged that the government is committed to supporting the Nigeria Police Academy, the police, and other security agencies with the necessary resources, training, and equipment required for them to excel in their duties.
The President reiterated the crucial role of the academy in building a police force that is not only effective in maintaining law and order but also deeply respectful of human rights and dignity. He commended the Academy's leadership and staff for their efforts in shaping the next generation of officers.
"We are committed to ensuring that our police officers are highly educated, well-trained, and equipped to manage internal security with respect for human rights," Tinubu noted, adding that the Academy's objectives align with his administration's cardinal principles of building a new Nigerian police force founded on:

A Premier Institution's Milestone
The event also served as a celebration of the Nigeria Police Academy's growth. The Commandant of the Academy, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Patrick Adedeji Atayero, announced that the new officers had been awarded Bachelor's Degrees in various disciplines, having been found worthy in both learning and character.
Established on March 15, 1998, the Academy has evolved from operating in temporary locations in Kaduna and Kano into a fully-fledged Degree Awarding Institution that now offers postgraduate programs.
The significant Passing-Out-Parade attracted a high-profile gathering, including the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, heads of military formations, senior government officials, and members of the National Assembly, underscoring the national importance placed on this new cohort of police leaders.
