The Nigerian Army has reported the rescue of eight kidnap victims in separate operations in Zamfara State, alongside the apprehension of 39 suspected drug dealers in Plateau State, as part of a broader response to security incidents across the country. The details were disclosed in an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

Rescue Operations in Zamfara

Troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kaura Namoda in Zamfara rescued two abducted victims after engaging terrorists who were attacking commuters along the Sabon Gari-Gusau road. The assailants were forced to flee into nearby bushes. During the exploitation of the area, troops discovered two civilians with gunshot wounds and evacuated them to Kaura Namoda General Hospital for medical treatment.

In a separate operation, troops and local vigilantes pursued terrorists who had kidnapped residents at Kure village in Zamfara. After engaging the attackers, they rescued six abducted victims, identified as Usman, Baba Usman, Hassan, Sunusi, Abdullahi Yahaya, and Sule. Troops later patrolled surrounding communities and urged residents to provide timely intelligence to aid further operations.

Response to Terrorist Threats

Troops also responded to terrorists blocking the Gummi-Anka road, engaging the attackers to clear the route. Additionally, a terrorist attack at Danpadama village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area (LGA) prompted a swift military response to secure the community and restore confidence among residents.

Drug Bust in Plateau State

In Plateau State, troops conducting raids on criminal hideouts in Bassa LGA apprehended 39 suspected drug dealers and users. The operation led to the recovery of suspected illicit substances, which are now under investigation.

Other Security Incidents

Troops, alongside other security agencies, restored calm after suspected cult violence in Ugboren community, Delta State. The incident resulted in one death, and angry youths destroyed shops and buildings. Security forces intervened to prevent further escalation.

In Zamfara, troops dispersed protesters who had blocked the Gusau-Sokoto highway over persistent insecurity. The road was reopened for commuters after normalcy was restored to the area.
