A seven-year-old boy has died after the bouncy castle he was playing on was lifted into the air by a powerful gust of wind in Hamme, Belgium. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, May 9, during a youth football tournament.
Details of the Incident
Jean Kylian Essombe, described as an enthusiastic young footballer, was thrown across the field when the inflatable structure was caught by a sudden wind. He collided with a fence, sustaining critical injuries. Emergency services rushed to the scene and provided immediate aid before transporting him to AZ Sint-Blasius hospital and later to UZ Gent medical facility. Despite doctors' efforts, Jean passed away just hours later.
Three other children were also injured in the incident and were taken to hospital for examination.
Background
Jean had been watching his older brother, Louis, participate in the Youth Cup tournament. Louis was playing for Wambeek-Ternat's U10 team. Earlier that day, Jean had competed in another tournament for the same club but in a younger age group.

Authorities in East Flanders have launched an investigation into the fatal incident. Officials are reportedly examining whether the bouncy castle was adequately secured and whether safety regulations were followed.
Tributes
SK Wambeek-Ternat paid a heartfelt tribute to Jean, stating: "With deep sadness, we learned the news about Jean. It is hard to comprehend that someone so young and full of life has left us. Jeanke was not only a talented player, but above all a wonderful friend, always full of enthusiasm and with a smile on his face. We will never forget the joy he shared. Our thoughts are with his parents, his brother Louis, his family and friends at this difficult time."
KFC Wambeek-Ternat, which has around 600 players, cancelled all weekend fixtures as a mark of respect and pledged ongoing support for the youngsters, parents, coaches, and Jean's loved ones.
Club chairman Jos Donvil said: "It was a tragic accident. We now have only one task, and that is to give the right support to the parents, trainers and family. His brother, who also plays with us, has lost his playmate."
Neighbouring club FCV Dender EH Jeugd also expressed condolences: "We would like to express our sincere condolences and heartfelt support after the tragic death of a young player from our football region. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, teammates, trainers and everyone at KFC Wambeek Ternat, Next Youth Generation and VW Hamme.
