CNG Explosion Causes Havoc at Kaduna Motor Park, Damaging Buses and Cars
A significant incident occurred early Sunday morning at the Mando Garage Motor Park in Kaduna State, where a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) explosion resulted in damage to multiple vehicles, including two luxury buses and several cars. According to eyewitness accounts shared on social media, the explosion sparked panic in the area but fortunately did not lead to any loss of life.
Eyewitness Report Details the Explosion
Sanruk Musa, an eyewitness who posted about the event on his official X account, @Saniology, provided a detailed account of the scene. He reported that at approximately 4:00 AM on Sunday, a CNG-powered bus owned by Silver Travel & Luxury Bus was involved in a major explosion. The force of the blast extended to a second bus parked nearby, as well as to other smaller vehicles positioned at the side of the motor park.
Musa described hearing a loud explosion followed by flames and thick smoke, which contributed to the spread of damage beyond the initial vehicle. Preliminary findings suggest that the explosion originated from one of the CNG buses, though the exact cause remains under investigation. Possible factors being considered include gas leakage, cylinder failure, or improper handling of the CNG system.
Impact and Response to the Incident
The explosion caused significant damage to the affected buses and cars, creating a scene of chaos and alarm among those present at the motor park. Despite the intensity of the blast, authorities have confirmed that there were no fatalities, a relief noted by Musa in his report. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the safety of CNG-powered vehicles, especially in public transport settings.
Local emergency services and relevant agencies are likely conducting further investigations to determine the precise cause and to implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. This event serves as a reminder of the importance of proper maintenance and safety protocols for vehicles using alternative fuels like CNG.
