A tragic incident has occurred in the Innayin community, located in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State, where a wild elephant attacked residents, resulting in one death and one person missing. The attack took place on Thursday, claiming the life of Ibrahim Tijani, who suffered fatal injuries during the encounter. Another resident, Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, was also attacked by the animal and has since been reported missing.
The deceased's body has been recovered and taken to a nearby health facility. The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident, stating that police operatives, along with local vigilantes and hunters, responded promptly to a distress call from the community.
“Upon arrival, the lifeless body of Ibrahim Tijani was discovered in a nearby bush, showing injuries consistent with an animal attack. His remains have been evacuated to the General Hospital in Iwere-Ile for examination and preservation,” Ayanlade said.
He further added that search operations are ongoing to locate the missing victim. “During the ongoing search, another individual, Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, was reported missing after an encounter with the same animal. Intensive efforts are currently underway to find him,” he stated.
The police assured residents that the situation is under control and that necessary measures are being implemented to prevent further attacks. They urged the public to avoid the affected area and to immediately report any sightings of the animal to security agencies.
