The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced enhanced surveillance and monitoring measures across all international airports in response to the recent Ebola virus outbreak in the East and Central African region. In a statement released on Wednesday, FAAN Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, confirmed that the authority is working closely with Port Health Services, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and other relevant agencies to strengthen passenger screening protocols.
Preventive Measures at International Airports
FAAN has implemented preventive measures aimed at curbing the potential spread of the disease. Passengers arriving from high-risk regions are being screened for symptoms associated with Ebola, including fever, headache, muscle pain, and unexplained bleeding. Any individual displaying symptoms will be promptly isolated and subjected to secondary health checks in accordance with established national and international health protocols.
Enhanced Coordination and Preparedness
The authority has also strengthened coordination with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a unified response. Staff sensitization programs have been intensified, and emergency response procedures have been reinforced to guarantee swift action when necessary. FAAN emphasized that while there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola in Nigeria, the agency remains vigilant and fully committed to safeguarding public health and maintaining safe airport operations.
Passengers are advised to remain calm, comply with all health screening procedures, and immediately report any symptoms to health officials at the airports. FAAN continues to monitor the situation closely and will update the public as needed.
