'When you bend a rule like this, you're on a slippery slope that will put the whole game at risk,' she said. 'It is a worry for the game when you compromise fundamental rules of the game.' Infantino defended the decision, stating that FIFA's disciplinary committee operates autonomously and makes decisions based on regulations and facts. 'Their independence is essential to the credibility and integrity of football,' he said. Klaveness countered that FIFA had a 'very powerful voice in their ear' and made a 'mistake' by not consulting more widely. She expressed disappointment but not surprise at the lack of transparency.

Klaveness revealed that the NFF board would discuss the matter, and if backed, an official complaint would be submitted to FIFA's ethics committee. 'To try to sweep this under the carpet now will not fly,' she said. 'Too many felt this… coaches, players, fans… that this was too close to the game.' She described the case as 'so serious' and 'so worrying,' highlighting the need for honest communication and accountability.
