The chairman of Akure South Local Council Area in Ondo State, Gbenga Fasua, has officially launched a security Joint Task Force (JTF) as part of measures to combat crime across the 11 wards of the local government. The initiative brings together security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders to create a coordinated response to crime prevention and emergency management within the council area.
Coordinated Security Approach
Fasua described the move as a bold step toward strengthening peace and security in the region. He stated that the JTF will operate under clear operational protocols, fostering situational awareness and rapid response to threats while ensuring professional conduct that upholds the rights and dignity of all residents. The task force is also expected to protect critical infrastructure, support emergency services, and maintain safe spaces for business, education, and workers.
Vision for Crime Prevention
The council boss emphasized that the vision behind the initiative is to synergize all existing security agencies alongside traditional rulers and community stakeholders to prevent crimes before they occur. This move comes amid growing concerns over rising insecurity in parts of the state, particularly in neighboring Akure North Local Council Area.
Fasua stated, "Today marks a landmark moment in Akure South Local Government as we launch Akure Local Government's special security network that we call the Joint Task Force. This initiative is a clarion call to unity, proactive collaboration, and a renewed commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of our people."

He added that the JTF would operate with clear protocols, respect for the rule of law, and an unwavering commitment to human rights.
