A tragic accident on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway in Ogun State has resulted in one death and 18 injuries after a truck collided with a bus. The incident occurred at the Osoosa/Bigi junction on Wednesday.

Details of the Crash

The collision involved a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number FZE 223 CR and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number KTP 331 XC. According to the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), a total of 20 people were involved in the crash.

Cause of the Accident

TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi stated that the accident was caused by excessive speed on the part of the Mercedes truck driver, who lost control and rammed into the Toyota bus. The impact left one person dead and 18 others with varying degrees of injuries.

Rescue and Response

Emergency responders, including personnel from TRACE, Amotekun, the police, and the army, were deployed to the scene for rescue operations. The injured victims and the deceased were rushed to IDERA Hospital in Odogbolu and Babcock Teaching Hospital and Morgue for medical attention and preservation.

The accident vehicles were evacuated and towed to Papa Oscar cage at Obalende Police Division. Akinbiyi expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads to prevent such tragedies.
